Cheltenham Youth Festival of Cricket 2004
In the summer, July 2004, three of our Under 11's team were selected to represent the Bristol Youth Cricket League in the Cheltenham festival. The three lucky players were myself (Tom Pugsley), Conner Smith and Luke Allison.
The festival was spread over five days with one day off (Thursday) and we had 1½ hours of professional coaching on the Wednesday morning.
Each team had to play four matches; the teams were Bristol A, Bristol B, Stroud, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stow-on-the-Wold. The three lucky players were selected to play for Bristol B. Matches were played on a points system, the points were based on wickets taken, how many runs scored and overall winner.
The highlight for each player was:- when I took the most wickets overall for the team. Connor's was attacking the spinner and hitting him for four. Lukes was great batting and playing some nice shots.
Overall in the festival Bristol B came second, I thought that was a great achievement.
I would like to thank Chris McCormack, Paul Pillenger and James Connell for coming up and supporting us, and our parents and grand parents for ferring us to Cheltenham each day.
It was a great experience, meeting players from other Bristol clubs, each giving each other support.
